At a press briefing held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, today, the President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko said that the body has reached an agreement with Shelter Afrique, a Pan African housing institution, to finance the construction of 12,000 housing units to ensure the provision of affordable housing for the Nigerian masses.

Govt needs to partner more with REDAN to smoothen delivery of affordable housing.
This agreement he said was reached at Shelter Afrique’s Annual General Meeting tagged “Four Decades of Affordable Housing Policies in Africa, held in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde.
Wamakko added that it was ensured that the REDAN team attended all the meetings in Yaounde to make certain, adequate representation for the Nigerian housing sector and to push for more support for the RUHI -774 which he said has the full backing of the Nigerian government.
“The focus of this briefing is to inform the general public on the far reaching agreement we had with the Pan African Housing Finance institution, to provide housing for Nigerians, as everyone deserves a house, Wamakko said.
“You will recall that the association had briefed Nigerians and members of the Press that the association initiated a national housing development program tagged Rural-Urban Housing Initiative (RUHI-774) with the aim to develop at least 100 standard housing units in each of the 774 local government areas of the federation, including the FCT, where feasible and viable, with requisite infrastructure.

“In sourcing fund for the scheme, we approached Shelter Afrique. The Yaounde meeting gave us another opportunity to engage the Pan African Housing Financial Institution.
“We are pleased to inform our Off Takers and Stakeholders that the RUHI-774 has received a boost, as Shelter Afrique has agreed to finance 12,000 housing units, of which they will finance the 1st phase of 6,000 housing units by August 2021.

At the end of the speech, Wamakko thanked the Board and Management of Shelter Afrique for the confidence reposed on REDAN and agreeing to support RUHI through capacity buiding and construction finance for affordability.
