According to President and Chairman of Council, of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), ESV Victor Alonge, Upskilling is no longer an option, but a global imperative, a key to remaining relevant and competitive in a rapidly changing world. He said, that is why major organizations and economies around the world have over the last few years launched dedicated programmes geared towards upskilling and reskilling their workforce.

The NIESV President made the remarks yesterday, in Lagos at the presentation of Certificates to graduates of Cohort 2 of Knight Frank Academy.

“As a profession, we must constantly figure out how developments in technology, sustainability, and urbanization impacts or transform the profession, and what trends we may see continuing in the future.”

“The profession must face up to the reality that the context within which we presently practice it has changed, so dramatically that the skill set required must also shift”, noted the President.

He also gave commendation to Knight Frank for what he described as
‘a reminder through the programme that an ever-transforming world means as a profession, we must constantly evolve, adapt, and be transformed to respond to new challenges and opportunities’. It is also a reminder that our skills might not always be relevant, hence the need to explore the must-have future skills that guarantees we are perfectly positioned to succeed in the years and decades ahead, he said.

Knight Frank Academy is a product of vision, strategic thinking and will. Through the programme, Knight Frank attempts to ensure that the gap between competency level of fresh graduates and entry requirements into the Professional cadre of the Institution is significantly abridged as a way of enhancing the objectives of the Institution, one of which is to establish a high and reputable standard of professional conduct and practice in the landed profession throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is also a way of returning value to the society, and assist in producing highly skillful and employable Estate Surveyors and Valuers by leading Estate Surveyors and Valuation firms, government, agencies, organizations in the public and private sectors, the President further remarked.

While commending Knight Frank for the value adding initiative, he promised that Council would be willing to assist and collaborate with the leading real estate firm in every way possible, in order to enhance the success of the programme.
