Engr. Professor Samson Duna has added another traditional feather to his cap. The DG/CEO of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute is now the KACHALLAN HASHIDU. This prestigious traditional title was bestowed on Prof. Duna on 10th October, 2023 in recognition of his kind gesture towards the people of Hashidu, a district in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, North-East Nigeria. Speaking at his palace during the title conferment, the ruler of Hashidu (the Hakimi Hashidu) Alhaji Abubakar Adamu said Duna’s benevolence is seen in the construction of a Block of 3 classrooms by NBRRI in the locality. He said the facility will further advance education among the children which will bring future development in the district.
Appreciating this kind gesture from NBRRI, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Jamilu Ahmed Shabewa and the Hon. Commissioner of Education, Haj. Aishatu Umar Maigari applauded the institute for finding it worthy to situate the project in such a remote area of the state as a means of bringing the dividend of democracy closer to the people. With joy, Hon. Jamilu promised to collaborate with NBRRI in providing block making machine and also facilitate the training of some youths within the locality on how to operate the machine.
Responding, Prof. Duna said he accepts the title and pledged to contribute to the development of the area. This latest traditional title of the DG comes as no surprise as he continues to use the Institute to touch the lives of entire communities especially those in the vulnerable areas.
