Abuja – November 30, 2023 – Viewpoint Housing News.

The former governor of Anambra state and Labour party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed his unhappiness over the recent demolitions in the country.

In a statement via his X handle Obi said‘’ following the continuing demolition of homes around the nation, I have been saddled with extreme despondency and sadness, especially in light of the additional suffering that these actions have inflicted upon unfortunate people who are already struggling with multifaceted poverty.

Given the challenging economic circumstances facing the nation, a responsive government is required to devise policies targeted at easing the burdens of the populace and implementing actions that would lift a greater number of people out of poverty.

Even if some of the governments’ claims of infractions are true, the timing of these demolitions is unfavourable given the current state of affairs and the impact it would have on the impoverished who are already finding it difficult.

The impoverished individuals among us, who are making do with what little they have, are suffering from extreme financial strain that ought not to be exacerbated. Some of the properties being razed are the retirement homes and life savings of the elderly and disabled.

Therefore, I’m making an appeal to the various governments participating in this act to take into account the difficulties facing the nation and make an effort to incorporate humanity into their activities. While reasonable restrictions should be enforced, compassion must be shown in all government acts.
