The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) had in a statement signed by its spokesperson last Tuesday, drew the attention of the governments of South-South states and communities to the 2023 early flood warning.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had announced that this year’s flooding might be worse than in 2022.

Mudiaga Ogboru recalled similar warnings issued last year prior to devastating floods that swept through the region

He said lack of preparedness by the authorities led to the loss of lives and accentuated the hardship that many are yet to recover from.

Ogboru advised the states and community leaders to educate citizens on flooding, how to prepare themselves and likely evacuation, among others.

“Hopefully, the government will attend to its primary responsibilities this time around,” the organisation noted.

“All hands must be on deck to ensure the suffering of those who will be affected is mitigated and loss of life is completely eliminated where possible”.
