A landslide has reportedly rocked Odi, Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday at about 9am.
t was learnt that 10 houses along the bank of the River Nun were destroyed.
Although no life was lost, the incident according, to sources, caused panic in the community.
The landslide is believed to have been caused by water erosion after a downpour.
An indigene of the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, It was God’s doing that the incident happened during the day and not at night.
“It is one of the many challenges faced by riverine communities. It started at about 7am as an earth tremor and two hours later the ground gave way causing the houses to collapse. Thank God no life was lost.”
The Chief Whip of Bayelsa State House of Assembly and member-elect for Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency I, Tonye Isenah , an indigene of Odi, on Monday paid an unscheduled visit to the area.
Isenah expressed concern over the level of destruction caused by the landslide.
He called on the authorities to come to the aid of the victims. Punch
