A land dispute is said to have led to the stabbing of Marufu Keji, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of a station in Ilesha Baruba, Baruteen Local Government Area, Kwara State, by a soldier stationed at sector 3 Garrison, Monguno, Borno State, Suleiman Sidiq.

The soldier was seen yelling at the DPO and other cops inside the station while brandishing a jack knife in a video of the incident.
“I am not a coward; I will kill you and waste your blood.” He was heard to say, “You can film me; I’m a soldier.”

The Kwara Police Command spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi on Thursday evening, confirmed the incident.

In a statement later made public on behalf of the CP by Victor Olaiya. “Parties involved were warned to maintain peace and return Thursday for further resolution,” However, when the complainant, Suleiman Sidiq, got so erratic while under the influence of intoxicating substances, things turned violent.

“He attacked the Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Okeowo Joel, despite all attempts to calm him down and persuade him to stop.” Suleiman Sidiq produced a Jack Knife during the intervention of Divisional Police Officer DSP Marufu Keji, severely wounding him on the head and stabbing him in the left hand.

“He escaped the station by climbing the fence after the assault, he was however given a hot chase and subsequently arrested”

The statement further stated that, the DPO was receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained, adding that details of the incident would be provided as the investigation progresses.
