A fire at the Gwarzo Market in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano state damaged properties valued at millions of naira.
Many of the victims of Monday’s inferno are said to have lost millions of naira in the tragedy, which has left them in serious condition.
The event was verified by Rabiu Khalil, the Gwarzo Local Government’s Zonal Information Officer, in a statement provided to The PUNCH on Tuesday.
The statement stated, “The fire started last Sunday at midnight and it took the State Fire Service personnel up until Monday morning to finally put it out.”
According to Khalil, the fire entirely burned dozens of stores and ruined goods valued at millions of naira.
But he pointed out that there were no casualties or fatalities in the incident.
Dayyabu Bala, one of the victims, claimed the fire his items worth more over N5 million. He urged the government and other wealthy people to help them in order to lessen their misery.
Abdulahi Babangandu, a member representing the Gwarzo Federal Constituency, visited the impacted shopkeepers to express condolences and gave N500,000 to the victims.
When contacted, Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, verified the occurrence and stated that the fire damaged 22 stores.
However, Abdullahi clarified that two of the 22 stores were still being built in the marketplace.
“There were 22 impacted shops, two of which were incomplete,”
