The Jigawa State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Europa Carbon Limited, a renewable energy company, in a significant move aimed at addressing climate change and enhancing the state’s revenue base.
The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Government House in Dutse, with Governor Umar Namadi presiding over the event. The Managing Director/CEO of Europa Carbon Limited, Engr. Muhammad Yadudu, led his company’s delegation to the ceremony.
Yadudu said, “This MoU represents a key component of the state government’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions, bolster climate resilience, and promote sustainable development. Under the agreement, clean energy will be produced to support agricultural and industrial activities across Jigawa State.”
Governor Namadi expressed enthusiasm about the MoU, stating, “Today marks anoather milestone in our journey to improve Jigawa State’s energy infrastructure while ensuring it is clean and safe. This MoU will help us reduce carbon emissions, boost our revenue, and contribute to a safer and cleaner Jigawa.”
The governor highlighted ongoing state initiatives, such as converting water stations from mechanical to solar energy and replacing diesel generators with solar-powered systems. These changes aim to further decrease carbon emissions and enhance environmental safety.
“This MoU is part of our 12-point agenda to improve Jigawa’s revenue and marks another significant achievement,” Governor Namadi added.
The MoU, valued at $500,000, will span seven years, marking the beginning of a transformative period for Jigawa State’s energy and environmental strategies.
