The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency on Thursday warned of possible flood in 34 out of the 36 states of the country.
The agency, under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, released its 2018 annual Flood Outlook (AFO) in Abuja with a warning that 28 out of these states are highly predicted to experience flood related risks this rainy season.
The Acting Director General of the agency, Mr O. M. Ogunwale, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja shortly after unveiling the report, said the situation would not be as bad as experienced last year.
According to the new Flood Outlook, there is likelihood of flood in some local government areas of Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi and Benue states.
Others are: Plateau, Delta, Bayelsa, Anambra, Edo, Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Cros-River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Imo, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe and Nasarawa states.
The annual Flood Outlook also predicted flash and urban flooding in Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Lagos, Ibadan, Kaduna, Yola, Abuja, Maiduguri, Makurdi, Calabar, Jos and Owerri.
Others are: Obi, Osogbo , Ilorin, Awka, Abakaliki, Birnin-Kebbi, Kano, Yenagoa, Abeokuta, Ado-Ekiti, Lokoja, Lafia, Nsukka, Suleja, Karu, Nyanya, Abaji, Onitsha, Sapele and Hadejia.
