The First phase of the coastal road construction contract has been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed this at the Presidential Villa yesterday, following the meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

According to Umahi, phase 1 is part of a 700-kilometer road that spans nine states with two spurs into northern states. He said the project’s first phase will consist of 47.47 kilometers of dual carriageway with five lines on each side and a train track in the middle, adding that concrete will be used for construction.

As the minister pointed out, “FEC has approved the construction of 700 kilometers of coastal routes from Lagos to Cross River, which will go from Lagos to the Lekki Deep Seaport, Ogun State, Ondo State, Delta State, Bayelsa State, Port Harcourt, and Akwa Ibom.

“But we also have two spurs that leads to the North, from the ongoing Badagry-Sokoto route and the one that leads to the Trans-Sahara route that goes from Ogoja down to Cameroon.

“Now, it is a dual carriage way. And each carriage way has five lanes and a provision for a train infrastructure that will be at the middle.”
