The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) Department of Development Control has given a quit notice at the Yan Kasuwa Market on the N16 Road corridor in Gwarinpa, stating that they must leave no later than Wednesday this week since clearing activities would begin on Thursday.
Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of Development Control, issued the order during a meeting with stakeholders, including merchants’ representatives.

He said that the FCTA had granted a contract for the full scope construction of the arterial route, and that the contractor had been engaging the traders since September 2023, but that the traders continued to want additional time, which he said would no longer be tolerated.

He stated that the traders’ refusal to quit had eaten into the contract’s timeframe, and that if the contract was not completed as scheduled, the cost of materials would continue to rise, potentially leading to demands for contract variation, which was contrary to the current administration’s policy.
He went on to say, “This meeting is basically to inform the traders occupying the N16 Road corridor, because the last time they were served notice, they said they were not fully briefed or informed and were not sure if the notice was authentic.”
