Residents of Tatagiya in Gwagwa Ward, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have bemoaned  their community’s lack of access to drinkable water.

Residents who spoke with the media stated that,  their main problem over the years has been the lack of pipe-borne water, noting that their only water supply has been a pond.

According to Ishaya Samuel, a resident, the neighbourhood did not have a borehole, therefore in order to get water, people would typically hike to a pond.
He said that the community’s lack of drinkable water had been putting their health at risk, so he made a plea to the AMAC authorities to help them out by drilling at least one borehole for the village.

The Village Head of Tatagiya, Mr Enoch Galadima, said, “It is only during the rainy season that my people do have some sigh of relief as they don’t go to the stream to get water. If you see the kind of water my people drink, you will pity them.”
He noted that, “But the chairman ordered some officials who came to this village to see how they would sink a borehole. I am very glad for the gesture as it will reduce the problem of water here.”
