Abuja – December 1, 2023 – Viewpoint Housing News.

The Lagos State Government has declared that, in spite of alleged threats and misinformation from some quarters, it would not back down from its determination to recover the drainage right of way within the seven-meter setback.

This commitment was made by the state government on Thursday through Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources.

Wahab had earlier claimed that the owners of the buildings whose constructions encroached on the seven-meter drainage setback on Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa, and Oral Estate II along the Ikota River in the state’s Lekki region had received a seven-day notice of violation.

Before emphasising that “enforcement will commence” once the deadline’s expiration, the state government stated that the infraction notice was issued in response to multiple stop-work notices imposed on the structure owners.

Several individuals were apparently alarmed by this crackdown because they thought the government was specifically targeting some ethnic groups,.

The commissioner responded to this assertion on Thursday via his X handle, @Tokunbo_Wahab, insisting that the state would no longer tolerate lawlessness .

“We refuse to submit to threats, blackmail, or propaganda. Nobody can take advantage of the law and remain above the law. The law will operate as it pleases. “Anyhowness” is a thing of the past! Wahab said.
