Two corp members deployed in Ogun State in 2019, Festus Oluseye and Chineye  Okereke, have renovated an abandoned health centre in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta and sank two boreholes for residents of Agbado community in the state.

The National Youth Service Corps announced both Oluseye and Okereke as best corp members for their acts.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Dr Belinda Faniyi, made the announcement during the passing-out ceremony of the 2019 batch A Corps members held at the M.K.O  Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

Faniyi noted that the decision to reward exemplary corp members, who have distinguished themselves in the course of the service year, was part of the age-long culture of the scheme.

Faniyi said 3,987 corps members were deployed in the state last year but two of them lost their lives during the service.

She said, “The scheme has an age-long culture of recognising and rewarding excellent performance during the service year,as well as disciplining those that run foul of the NYSC by-laws.

“It is in this light of the foregoing that 27 corps members of the batch that absconded from service shall have their certificates withheld and shall repeat the service whenever they show up, while three than ran foul of the by-laws shall serve punishment accordingly .”

While speaking with The PUNCH, Oluseye and Okereke said they raised the money for the project from well-meaning persons in the state.

The duo, however, appealed to the state government to reciprocate their gestures by providing them jobs in the state.

In his remarks, the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun congratulated all the exiting corp members for keeping faith with the one-year mandatory national service, which he noted was in fulfillment of the dreams of the country’s founding fathers.Punch
