Fire on Wednesday razed down Olorunda local government secretariat located in Igbona, Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Though the cause of the fire was not known, eyewitnesses told our correspondent that smoke was observed from the top floor of the two-storey building around 7pm by some passers-by.

“But before long, the entire secretariat was engulfed and we all watched as fire razed down the building”, a shop owner near the secretariat told our correspondent.

A staff of the local government, who preferred not to be named, said the fire might have started from the office of the chairman.

The said staff, who added that he rushed down to the office when he heard that the secretariat was on fire, said he was able to retrieve some of the files in his office.

He said firefighters were informed of the inferno but added that the firemen did not show up.

Because the fire was not put out, shop owners in the adjoining shopping complex to the secretariat were seeing evacuating their wares.

Olorunda local government is one of the two local government areas, located within Osogbo metropolis. Punch
