A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the South Sandwich Islands in the Atlantic at 10:26am Tuesday (local time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
Xinhua news agency reported the epicentre was monitored at 58.35 degrees south latitude and 26.37 degrees west longitude.
The quake struck at a depth of 150km, said the center.
