Abia state Governor, Alex Otti has flag-off the reconstruction of the Ohafia-Arochukwu Highway, which will terminate at the boundary between the state and Akwa Ibom.

At the event at Old Soldier Junction, Ebem Ohafia, Otti, in an address entitled “Beyond Road: A jinx is being broken,” the 41.4-kilometre project will be completed in 18 months.

“Today, we have come to begin a holistic process that will end this age-old nightmare and give fellow Abians living in the over 60 communities and clans around this corridor a new lease of life.

“We have sincerely taken this bold initiative to save the Federal Government the embarrassment this road has brought before international visitors and tourists.

In his contribution, the work commissioner, Otuechere Oti, said the project would mark a turning point in the socio-economic landscape of Arochukwu, Ohafia, and the state.

In his welcome address earlier, the mayor of Ohafia local government, David Onuoha, recounted how successive administrations had neglected the road and lauded the governor for coming to rescue the situation.
