The Executive Director of Projects Implementation, Federal Housing Authority, Oluremi Omowaiye, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is building at least 50,000 houses across the 36 states of the federation within the next year, to address the housing deficit in the country.

He stated that at a retreat organised for the newly inaugurated executives of the All Progressives Congress, United Kingdom Chapter, held at Birmingham City.

Presenting a paper titled ‘Tinubu’s Government is Tackling Housing Deficit”, the ex-Osun State Commissioner for Works said Tinubu had given a directive that the housing projects should be completed within one year.

A statement signed by Omowaiye, read in part, “Mr President has mandated us to build 50,000 affordable houses with flexible payment plans in the next year. The keywords are ‘affordability and long-term payment flexibility.

“Because we are looking at affordable houses, we are engaging in many things to reduce the cost of building without compromising safety and standard.”

He added that the agency was diversifying heavily into clay brick building which is used largely in the UK for building. “Since clay is readily available in most parts of the country as part of measures to bring down the cost of construction, hence a need to diversify into clay brick building.

We are collaborating with academia in this regard. Our research unit in the Oyetunde Ojo-led Federal Housing Authority is working assiduously on how to effectively use the locally sourced materials for our housing projects,” he concluded.
