The government of Borno State has threatened to withdraw land title documents in the government Reservation Areas (GRA), as well as in other layoutsinside Maiduguri Metropolis, and of Jere, local council for not perfecting their respective land documents.
Governor Babagana Zulum pledged to cancel the titles of all occupants in the ten layouts. Under the Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) pilot land development scheme.
In a statement released by BOGIS Executive Secretary Adam Bababe to the media in Maiduguri, Zulum issued the revocation threats. He also offered land title holders an 11-day opportunity, starting on December 31, 2023, to update their records that had been issued since June 2020.
He issued a warning, saying, “You should submit development building plans within the stipulated time.” he added, failure to do so, will have your plots revoked.
“The state government shall revoke all titles that fail to update their records, develop, or submit building plans by the end of this year,” the statement says in part.NEF/78 & 78 encompassing the whole GRA, as well as the Commissioners’ and Doctors’ quarters, NNDC, and all other sub divisions within the areas, were included in the pilot scheme layouts.
Other affected undeveloped layouts comprise the GRA BOTP/131 & BOTP/63. The statement added: “All New GRAs and its sub divisions, BOTP/44: All Polo general Area, BOTP/48 & 48A1 comprising All GRA Extension and Jiddari, LP/NE/30 Extension and BOTP/122 & 122 Extension: Gambole Road.
“Also affected are BOTP/60: Lagos Street South, BOTP/86: Forestry quarters and Lagos street North, NEP/96 & 96A: Off Damboa Road North and BOTP/172 Subdivision, as well as all disposed government quarters in the area.”
He noted that, the revocation warning aligns with the Land Use of 1978 and the State Borno Land Use Regulations 2022, which mandate the documentation of all landed properties within the state.
He urged the affected individuals and corporate organizations to approach the agency to perfect their respective land documents. Bababe said that this could prevent the State government from revoking land titles.
