– The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LSBCA), Gbolahan Oki in a statement last Sunday said it plans to immediately remove all distressed structures within the Agboye Compound in Ketu.
He also said occupants of the Aboye compound in the Ketu area of the state ignored several notices issued before the partial collapse occurred.
“The agency had served quit notice before parts of the building caved in amid heavy downpour on Saturday; and also evacuated over 500 residents to save them from the imminent collapse”, he said.
Oki said despite several notices served by the Agency, some of the residents refused to vacate the buildings, which were exhibiting different signs of distress.
“The structural integrity of about 8 buildings within the compound could not be guaranteed as several parts of the buildings had started giving way”, he added.
“The buildings must be pulled down to prevent casualties and protect the built environment, warning that more stringent measures await those ignoring notices and directives of the agency”, he said in the statement.
