2022 Revised National Science and Innovation Policy Will Be A Lasting Legacy — Buhari

The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu at the Technology and Innovation EXPO 2022, themed ‘Sustaining National Economic Growth through Science, Technology and Innovation’, in the Abuja, the nation’s capital, said the 2022 Revised National Science and Innovation Policy will serve as full diversification of the country’s economy which will be a lasting legacy to the entire Nigerian populace – present and future.

“The 2022 Revised National Science and Innovation Policy is a document which I believe will not only serve as a principal document but, the full diversification of the Nigerian economy and be a lasting legacy to both present and future generations of Nigerians for the promotion of a knowledge economy, the President said.

“The Science, Technology and Innovation Television will be used for extensive advocacy to inculcate science, technology and innovation as part of our everyday life in the country.

Buhari, 79 also said the projects that were commissioned during the EXPO yesterday were aimed at job and wealth creation, as well as increasing the number of youth and women attraction to science, technology and innovation activities.

He added that no country has ever become great without science, technology and innovation, citing other developed countries that today, are revered globally all because of their improvement and use of science and technology.

It is for this reason he said the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2022 as approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) mandated the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to operate as a platform for collaboration among agencies of the federal government and State Ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as a service ministry of the federal government to interact with all relevant agencies and organizations, synergizing and promoting their application of science, technology and innovation results in all sectors of the Nigerian economy.

“These include the areas of industrial growth, meteorology, human capital development and several other segments of the economy, the President said.

“This administration will continue to support the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation annual expo, in order to promote research, development and global competitiveness of the country, he added.

The President urged all the researchers, inventors and innovators in the country to leverage on the commitment of the government to showcase their potentials and talents to the world through innovations that are capable of being commercialized for the transformation of the country’s economy.

The Minister of State, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mohammed Abdullahi added that this year’s event of the EXPO aims at improving the overall economic growth of the country, as its objective which is in tanderm with the National Economic and Growth Plan. He added that the EXPO is further designed to encourage interactions between researchers and investors.

The EXPO had in attendance, other dignitaries including, Sen. Uche Ekwunife representing the Senate President, Ahmed Lawal, Kolawole Oluwashola representing the FCT Minister, Mohammed Musa Bello, Hon. Olaide Akinremi, Chairman House Committee on Science and Research Institutions, representing Hon. Beni Lar, Chairman House Committee on Science and Technology, Her Excellency Emmanuella Esopi, a Representative of the European Union Commission, amongst others.
