Residents and shop owners of Ajiran Community in the Eti-Osa Local Government area have been urged to take responsibility of wastes in their environments to achieve a clean and sustainable environment.
This plea was made by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Waste Management Authority, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, at a meeting with the Monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, representatives of CDAs/CDCs and other stakeholders in the community.
He asked that participants should patronise assigned PSP operators and pay their waste bills promptly as there was nowhere in the world that waste services are free. Odunbomi also warned that further environmental infractions by community residents would attract the full weight of the law.
The Chief Technical Officer, LAWMA, Dr Olohunwa Tijani, stated that some shops had already been sealed in the neighbourhood for reckless waste disposal and other environmental infractions as a deterrent to would-be defaulters.
