National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said rescue operations on the site of the collapsed building in Abuja has ended.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, the Director General of NEMA, Mr Mustapha Maihaja confirmed one person dead, one critically injured and five rescued alive.

On Friday evening, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello visited the scene and commended rescue efforts.

Rescue efforts were carried out by NEMA, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Federal Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police and other security agencies.

Earlier reports said two people died but NEMA maintained that only one person died.

Witnesses who spoke to newsmen however claimed that more than 10 people were trapped.

Viewpoint Housing News reported that officials of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) had taken samples of materials from the site like sand, iron rods for laboratory tests.
